Hey Amber, thanks for sharing!

The politics of Berkeley these days can be a bit maddening, but overall the city really has managed to construct a pretty great cultural bubble- highly intelligent, mostly mellow yet always interesting people with a great taste for food. It's a shame that public perceptions of Berkeley as a radical Marxist hippie nest, though not entirely unfounded, go largely unchallenged. Fortunately, most people who live there know better :)

Okay, now, how willing are you to beg and plead for this recipe for phyllo savories? Because I am not against you doing just that. I actually live only a few hours away but I never seem to get to Berkeley even though it is one of my favorite Bay area cities. I used to go in the 1969 when I was about 12 and it was like walking around the best brains and the greatest social protest. Luckily it isn't that different, they just grew up and changed the establishment they so despised into a better world. Thanks for reminding me.

You have made me really want a mallomar. When I first saw them, I thought this is heaven. I also enjoy (which are similar) Baker's Dozen (which you can only get around easter in Ohio ---ask Josh. They are mallomar's without the graham cracker and more gooey and chewy)

I still haven't set foot in Ici; I'll be sure to make a trip next time I'm up. There's nothing that can keep me from an ice cream sandwich :)

I just had Ici on Sunday - I had butterscotch pecan, but I got to try peach habanero, cilantro, and pink peppercorn. Wild, wild stuff. I need to go back for their ice cream sandwiches.
